Grand Canyon Facts
Grand Canyon FactsThe Grand Canyon is one of the most amazing places on the planet. Carved out by the Colorado River, the cliffs of the canyon expose 2 billion years of Earth 'history including Proterozoic and Paleozoic Strata. It is a wonderful example of attrition, which can not be seen anywhere else.

If you've been there, in its present form for millions of years, it wasn't really explored much until after the civil war, although one of the first records this beautiful area dates back to 1540 when it was explored by Captain Garcia Lopez de Cardenas of Spain, who wrote that the rocks in the canyon would probably even then, the tower of Seville. Today it is visited by many, and home to one of the oldest US National Parks-the Grand Canyon National Park. We can thank Theodore Roosevelt pushed for the conservation of this beautiful region that he loved to visit.
