Named for the habit of mimicking the sounds of other birds and also insects, their loud, rapid noises are easily recognized. Pale grey and white in color, this long tailed bird is a delight to many bird watchers.
The states economy thrives on Agriculture with the production of poultry, eggs, soybeans, cotton, rice, hogs and milk. In the Industrial field, food processing, electric equipment, machinery and paper products are a major aspect.
The state flag holds a unique story. It is a diamond that sits on a red backdrop, representing the only place in North America that diamonds have been mined. Twenty-five white stars around the diamond signify that Arkansas was the twenty-fifth state to join the Union. Four stars surround the word Arkansas in the center of the flag. The top star recognizes Arkansas as a Confederate State during the civil War. The other three stars represent Spain, France and the United States as countries that had rule over the land.
